Become a Shrine Guardian
Our Shrine guardians play an important role in the mission of the Shrine by helping all visitors feel welcomed and at home at the Shrine.
What is a Shrine Guardian?
Shrine guardians are volunteers who welcome and assist pilgrims visiting the Shrine and gift shop. Guardians may volunteer as little or often as they like -- a few hours every week, once a month, or anything in between.
Being a Shrine guardian offers you an opportunity to serve, grow, and share the love of the Blessed Mother with those who visit the Shrine while deepening your faith through service and prayer.
The guardian’s primary role is to welcome visitors and help in the gift shop. In addition, guardians may assist with other light tasks. Guardians may also spend time praying in the Shrine. We ask that the guardians pray for all the intentions of the visitors to the Shrine.
Can anyone be a Shrine Guardian?
Yes, all are welcome! A short overview will be provided for all new guardians. A guardian does not need to know a lot about Schoenstatt. Anyone who wants to serve our Blessed Mother and extend a warm welcome to visitors is qualified!
A Bit of History
In 1939, during the extremely difficult times of National Socialism in Germany, the youth of the original Shrine committed to protect the Shrine by spending time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, and the concept of Shrine Guardians was born. Since that time, Shrine Guardians have continued to “stand watch” and welcome visitors in the 200+ Shrines throughout the world.
